Fluency Through Subtitle Sentence Study

GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO STUDYTHAISUBS.COM!

This website presents Thai audio and subtitles along with corresponding English translations from some great Thai and Hollywood movies! While the selfstudythai.com project broke up sentences to sharpen listening skills and study vocabulary, this website uses phrases and full sentences taken from movies to study the sentence structure used in narration and conversations.

Update April 30 2021: Many subtitles for "SuckSeed" and "One Day" have been updated to match the Netflix subtitles for these movies. At least for now I don't plan on adding any additional content to this website. With 15 movies and over 10,000 subtitles there should be enough content to keep you busy for a while.

Though most subtitles of each particular movie are included in the study pages, some have been left out. For a subtitle to be included there must be corresponding Thai audio. Lines in the movie where a language other than Thai is being spoken or where something like texting is taking place will not be included. Things like unclear audio and single word subtitles may be left out as well. Because of these and similar issues, you may find yourself missing out on parts of the stories when studying these subtitles. I've only included movies I've felt were worth watching, so by all means, watch each of these movies after you've studied the subtitles and enjoy them as they were meant to be viewed.

How to Use This Website

Access to all movies comes from the menu at the top right hand corner of the screen. After selecting the movie you wish to explore further, click on the various "Study - Chapter xx" rectangles that come after each English description to listen to the movie in Thai one subtitle at a time and to see the translation for each subtitle. Translations are hidden by default. To view the translation for a particular subtitle, just click in the circle with the question mark symbol.

Websites For Purchasing Thai and Thai Region Movies

These websites are provided for your convenience and I cannot guarantee results. If you're ordering from within Thailand, I believe eThaiCD will give you a discount from their listed prices, but ask first to check as I haven't purchased from them for several years. These days I buy my DVDs from the local Boomerang shop. I should also note that quite often older DVDs are no longer available for sale, but you can sometimes find them on streaming services such as Netflix.
